Racism and the Church

With the Election coming up, I have been thinking a lot about some of the biggest issues of our generation and seeing it how God sees it. Racism is still at the forefront of people's minds since a lot of people need to ask for equality. This is how I feel about racism, and how I believe God feels about it as well.

Racism is something that Satan is very proud of. He wants us to be divided, have disagreements, and to hate each other. Slavery was and still is evil, and Satan is who is ultimately causing it. Racism interferes with the gathering of Israel because it makes people feel unwanted, useless, and ashamed because of how they look. God tells us over and over again in the scriptures how much He loves us, how we are created in His image, and how it doesn’t matter what you look like; it matters if you repent for your mistakes and sins. God wants us to connect with each other, and with racism present, we won’t.

I want to fight racism with accurate information when it comes up. For example, there was a ban until 1978 on African American members of the Church. African American men were not able to hold the Priesthood, and no one could go into the Temple. That period of time is controversial in the world, and in the Church. While I can’t go back and change some of those rules, I can show people what the Church is doing now for people who are minorities or African American. I can show them how much the church helps in terms of providing relief and doing charity work throughout the world. I will also love these people because they are God’s children and He and I do not see them differently based on the color of their skin.

How do you feel about these issues? Let me know in the comments!
