Why College is Important to Me

Hi everyone! This is officially my last blog post for this class. I probably will still post on this blog occasionally, but definitely not everyday. Today, I wanted to talk about and remember why college is important to me. In this part of life, it is to look at college as a job almost, since I spend a lot of my time focusing on it. I think this post will be a good reminder for me about why I started to go to school and why I want to finish, because, I will be honest, sometimes college just sucks. You have so much to do all the time and there isn't much of a break you get, except when you are between semesters.

Newsletters

For one of my classes recently, I had the opportunity of making up a company and writing a newsletter for the company. The company I made up was combining Journalism and Film students to help each other with their projects. Interviewing People

I love to interview people; always have, and probably always will. I have loved asking people questions from the time I was a child. If you can believe it, I didn't always want to be a journalist. When I originally went into college, I wanted to be a Nurse-Midwife (CNM). I was super interested in the human body and birthing. However, when I started to take some of the classes, I realized very quickly that I wasn't good at that type of learning they do in the medical field. I also could not understand anything I was being taught. I decided to take a break from school since I didn't know what steps to take next. What was supposed to be a semester-long break turned into a two-year break.

Racism and the Church

With the Election coming up, I have been thinking a lot about some of the biggest issues of our generation and seeing it how God sees it. Racism is still at the forefront of people's minds since a lot of people need to ask for equality. This is how I feel about racism, and how I believe God feels about it as well.

Doing a Little Better

Today's blog post comes from a quote given by Gordon B. Hinckley, who was Prophet and President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He said, "Each of us can do a little better than we have been doing. We can be a little more kind. We can be a little more merciful. We can be a little more forgiving. We can put behind us our weaknesses of the past, and go forth with new energy and increased resolution to improve the world about us, in our homes, in our places of employment, in our social activities.”
