Hi everyone! This is officially my last blog post for this class. I probably will still post on this blog occasionally, but definitely not everyday. Today, I wanted to talk about and remember why college is important to me. In this part of life, it is to look at college as a job almost, since I spend a lot of my time focusing on it. I think this post will be a good reminder for me about why I started to go to school and why I want to finish, because, I will be honest, sometimes college just sucks. You have so much to do all the time and there isn't much of a break you get, except when you are between semesters.
When I first went into college when I was 18, I was just going because everyone expected it of me. I thought that I had chosen a good major, Nursing (I wanted to be a nurse when I first went into college). I had no idea the amount of work and studying that college would be (I was very naive). I couldn't keep up with the work, so I ended up with a lot of bad grades. I thought I was just really stupid for a while. I did two semesters of college, and then basically gave up. About eight months later, I received my Patriarchal blessing. My blessing talks a lot about my education and how much I will value it. I was totally shocked when I received that promise; I almost didn't believe it. I put that promise on the back burner because I still had no desire to go to college.
In July of 2020, I moved to Provo, Utah. I met a lot of great friends and I was having a lot of fun, but then people went back to school. I was really lonely because people couldn't hang out with me very often since they had homework to do and tests to study for. After about three or four months, I began wondering if I should do some classes just to occupy my time. I signed up for BYU-Pathway and I have never looked back.
I eventually graduated from BYU-Pathway and am now at Ensign College studying Communications. As you can see, it has been a long journey. College is important to me because knowledge is power, it is the best way to fight poverty, and you learn so much about yourself. College is important because it is always something you can learn back on when you need it. I love college and all that it has taught me.
